KHARTOUM, June 10, 2026 (SUNA) — Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Professor Ahmed Modawi Musa on Wednesday met in Khartoum with the vice-chancellors of universities in Darfur States, West Kordofan University, and Al-Salam University. The Minister said national universities in Darfur, West Kordofan, and Al-Salam have presented an exemplary model of resilience and continuity in their academic mission despite the extensive destruction and systematic vandalism they suffered at the hands of the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia. He commended the efforts of university administrations, faculty members, staff, and students in maintaining the continuity of the educational process through alternative host locations. During the meeting, the Minister received detailed reports on academic and administrative performance and on efforts undertaken during the past period to ensure the continuation of studies and safeguard quality under the exceptional circumstances caused by the war. He praised the performance of these institutions, noting that their resilience reflects strong determination and a deep commitment to the mission of higher education and its role in human capacity building and national development. He described the continuation of academic activities under such conditions as a national achievement deserving of recognition and support. The Minister stressed that universities affected by the war have overcome significant challenges through close coordination between their administrations, the Ministry, and relevant authorities, ensuring continuity of education and safeguarding students’ right to learning despite severe damage to infrastructure and facilities. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to rehabilitating affected institutions, creating conditions for their return to their original campuses, and restoring full academic activity to strengthen the stability of higher education across the country. For their part, the vice-chancellors welcomed recent decisions concerning the return of higher education institutions to their original headquarters and the protection of students’ rights, describing them as an important step toward restoring academic stability. They also commended the Ministry’s efforts to sustain the educational process and called for continued support to enable universities to fulfill their role in service of society and in advancing reconstruction and development in Sudan.BH/BH
