Minnawi: New Tragedy as Militia Burns Villages in Orshi Area

The Governor of Darfur Region and leader of the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army, Minni Arko Minnawi, said that Orshi area in Umbaro locality, Darfur, came under a brutal attack today (Sunday) by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, resulting in the burning of several villages and widespread looting of civilians’ property, in addition to the complete destruction of Orshi market after it was plundered. In a post on his Facebook page, the Darfur governor said: “I reiterate my condemnation of these ongoing crimes and violations against civilians, and we call on the international community and humanitarian and human rights organizations to take urgent action to protect civilians and stop the crimes being committed against our people in Darfur.” He added that the world wakes up every day to a new crime committed against innocent civilians by the RSF militia, amid what he described as unjustified international silence and a clear failure to take serious steps to halt these violations and hold perpetrators—and those who support or provide them political and military cover—accountable. Minnawi said that what has befallen the people of Darfur, including genocide, ethnic cleansing, and forced displacement, represents one of the most serious humanitarian tragedies in Sudan’s modern history.BH/BH
