The Popular Resistance in North Darfur State issued a field report on Sunday documenting a violent and sudden attack carried out Sunday morning by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia on Orshi area and surrounding villages near the Orshi reservoir in Umbaro locality. According to the report, the attacking force overran the area using military reinforcements that included four-wheel-drive vehicles, as well as large numbers of mobilized fighters on horseback and camelback. The assault involved widespread attacks targeting unarmed civilians and their property, noting that the affected villages are entirely devoid of any military presence. Burned and Looted Villages The attack resulted in the burning and looting of eight villages in the vicinity of the Orshi reservoir, where the militia set fire on a wide scale to homes and facilities constructed from straw and thatch. Among the villages documented as partially or fully destroyed are: Orshi, Ini, Al-Salam, Qit’a, Sanguri, and Hajjak. Human and Material Losses Casualties: The attack resulted in the killing of five civilians as an initial toll, while the final number of fatalities has not yet been confirmed due to the severity of the situation and ongoing tensions.Destruction of economic infrastructure: Armed groups stormed Orshi market, looted it completely, and then set it on fire, destroying it entirely.Looting of property and livestock: The attackers carried out extensive looting of civilian homes, stealing large numbers of livestock along with essential household and livelihood items, which were transported out of the area.Humanitarian Situation and Indicators of CrisisThe local population is currently facing a rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation, reflected in the following indicators:Mass displacement: Thousands of residents have fled their burned villages in large waves of displacement, seeking safety in valleys and surrounding areas. Severe humanitarian deterioration: Displaced families are living under extremely harsh conditions in the open, under trees and in exposed areas, with no access to protection, food, clean water, or shelter, following widespread destruction and looting of their livelihoods.BH/BH
