Baku, June 16, 2026 (SUNA) — State Minister at the Ministry of Finance, Mohamed Nour Abdeldaim, met on Tuesday with the Director of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Concessional Financing Fund, Mohamed Al-Saati, on the sidelines of the 51st Annual Meetings of the IsDB Group in Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku. The meeting explored Sudan’s potential to benefit from the financing instruments and programmes offered by the Concessional Financing Fund, one of the key initiatives of the IsDB Group aimed at supporting least developed member states and countries affected by fragility and crises through concessional financing and Sharia-compliant development grants. During the talks, Fund officials outlined its objectives and programmes focused on high-impact investments in human capital development, food security, basic infrastructure, and strengthening resilience to economic shocks and climate change. The discussions also reviewed the criteria used in allocating the Fund’s resources, which are based on objective indicators including income levels, debt sustainability, and exposure to fragility and external shocks. The State Minister reaffirmed Sudan’s strong interest in benefiting from the Fund’s financing mechanisms amid the exceptional circumstances the country is facing due to the war and the extensive destruction caused to infrastructure, basic services, and productive sectors. He noted that Sudan’s needs in reconstruction, economic recovery, and rehabilitation of vital facilities are significant, making concessional financing a key tool for supporting national priorities in the coming phase. Abdeldaim further stressed the importance of directing Fund resources toward high-impact development projects, particularly in water, health, education, food security, youth empowerment, and capacity-building, in order to improve living conditions, strengthen economic and social stability, and support sustainable development. For his part, the Director of the Concessional Financing Fund expressed the Fund’s readiness to continue coordination with Sudanese authorities and to explore available opportunities for supporting development programmes and projects aligned with the Fund’s objectives and national development priorities, in support of recovery efforts and resilience-building. The meeting is part of Sudan’s efforts to strengthen cooperation with IsDB Group institutions and explore available financing mechanisms to support development and reconstruction projects in the coming phase.BH/BH
