Khartoum, June 16, 2026 (SUNA) — Health situation reports in the country have confirmed a decline in dengue fever cases across all reporting states, namely Khartoum, Al-Gezira, River Nile, Northern State, and Kassala, with 143 recorded cases and no fatalities. A similar decline was also reported in malaria cases. The reports, however, announced the emergence of laboratory results for suspected cholera cases in West Kordofan, confirming 7 positive cases and 3 negative cases out of a total of 10 samples tested. The Weekly Epidemiological Report (Week 23), covering the period from June 6 to 13, was presented during the regular meeting of the Federal Emergency Operations Center held at the Ministry of Health headquarters in Khartoum on Tuesday, in the presence of Minister Dr. Haitham Mohammed Ibrahim and Undersecretary Dr. Ali Babiker. The report indicated 36 suspected measles cases with no fatalities in Khartoum and White Nile States, while Al-Gezira State recorded 5 meningitis cases, also with no deaths. It further noted 132 cases of hepatitis (E) with no fatalities reported in Al-Gezira and Blue Nile States, as well as 4 cases of heatstroke at Argeen border crossing. The response report highlighted the activation of the technical cholera committee in West Kordofan, the establishment of isolation centres in the state, and preparations for the delivery of medical supplies. It also noted interventions including awareness campaigns and treatment of cases at the Foga isolation centre, while pointing to existing challenges and recommendations. The environmental health and food safety report confirmed the receipt of two waste-transport trucks and the approval of chlorine supplies for North Kordofan and the Abyei Administrative Area, in addition to ongoing activities across various sectors with varying levels of implementation. Regarding preventive measures against Ebola, the health promotion report confirmed the dissemination of awareness messages through social media, the launch of an integrated nutrition campaign across nine states, and ongoing related activities in several regions. The supply report noted variations in the availability of medicines, epidemic consumables, malaria supplies, infection control materials, and vaccines in state supply stores, while confirming the availability of intravenous fluids in all states. It also acknowledged support from the World Health Organization (WHO) to several states, while stressing continued shortages in some essential items. The quarantine report stated that the cumulative number of returnees from Egypt via Argeen and Ashkeit crossings reached 242,663 individuals, while 2,428 pilgrims arrived via Port Sudan Airport and 2,190 via Suakin Port, all of whom underwent required health procedures. It also outlined ongoing Ebola preventive measures. The National Public Health Laboratory report reviewed rapid test results for cholera and dengue fever, covering 68 samples, and highlighted the need for expanded Ebola testing capacity. The Quality, Development and Accreditation Directorate reported training of personnel at isolation centres, training of 32 doctors at Port Sudan Children’s Hospital, distribution of personal protective equipment, and training of quarantine staff in Khartoum and Port Sudan. The Minister directed the preparation of a monthly malaria report under the Prime Minister’s initiative, stressing the need for enhanced monitoring and coordination among relevant directorates, with periodic submission to the Ministry Undersecretary.He also emphasized the importance of identifying potential health risks in order to allocate necessary budgets.BH/BH
