Port Sudan, June 20, 2026 (SUNA) — Director-General of the Sea Ports Corporation Eng. Consultant Gailani Mohamed Gailani said the strategic location of Sudanese ports positions them to play a greater role in supporting the national economy, noting that the arrival of transshipment vessels and major shipping lines reflects confidence in the country’s stability and investment environment. He revealed that arrangements are underway to sign a memorandum of understanding with a leading global company specializing in port infrastructure development, covering modernization and automation projects aimed at enhancing service efficiency. The General Administration of the Southern Port on Saturday celebrated the increasing arrival of international shipping lines at Sudanese ports via the container terminal, an indication that Sudanese ports are regaining their pivotal role in regional and international trade and maritime transport. The event was attended by Eng. Gailani, his deputies for operations, planning, and engineering affairs, leaders of the port community, and representatives of maritime transport companies and shipping lines operating at Sudanese ports, led by Director-General of Sudan Shipping Line (Sudan Line) Omar Khalifa. Addressing the gathering, Eng. Gailani praised the port’s outstanding operational performance, noting that the speed and precision of operations enabled the port to unload the transshipment vessel EUPHORIA and load the vessel KOTA NAZIM within a single day through three consecutive shifts. He described the achievement as a reflection of the efficiency of national personnel and the port’s ability to operate according to the highest professional standards. The Director-General’s deputies affirmed the readiness of crews, equipment, and storage yards to handle incoming and outgoing cargo. Meanwhile, Southern Port Director Abdullah Hussein said operations are proceeding according to a well-designed plan and with full coordination among the various departments and sectors, adding that the achievement has been commended by Polaris and Al-Ahlia Shipping Agencies, the agents for the two vessels. Abdullah added that the Southern Port’s rising operational indicators point to the arrival of more global shipping lines and large vessels, reinforcing its position as a promising regional hub for container services and maritime transport. Participants at the event said the increasing frequency of shipping line calls opens broader prospects for boosting foreign trade and supporting economic recovery.BH/BH
