Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Meets Chair of Russian Council Foreign Relations Committee

Moscow, June 24, 2026 (SUNA) — The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Muawiya Othman Khalid, met on Wednesday with Georgy Karasin, Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Russian Federation Council, at the Council’s headquarters in Moscow. The two sides exchanged congratulations on the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sudan and Russia, and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation across various fields. The Undersecretary provided a briefing on developments in Sudan and the government’s efforts to achieve peace leading to the conduct of comprehensive elections. He also praised existing cooperation between the Russian State Duma and the Sudanese government, referring to the outcomes of a recent meeting between the Director of the General Intelligence Service, General Ahmed Ibrahim Mufaddal, and the Chair of the State Duma Foreign Relations Committee last month. The meeting also discussed the possibility of establishing a parliamentary friendship group for Sudan and organizing a visit by a Russian parliamentary delegation to Khartoum in the coming period, in coordination with the Foreign Relations Committee and MP Angelika Glazkova. For his part, Karasin welcomed the holding of political consultation committee talks between the two countries, affirming Russia’s satisfaction with the level of bilateral relations and its firm support for Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.BH/BH
