Nairobi, June 28, 2026 (SUNA) — Sudan’s State Minister at the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Welfare, Suleima Izhaq, together with the Embassy of the Republic of Sudan in Kenya, participated in a seminar organised by the Centre for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC) in Nairobi on the Sudanese government’s efforts to protect civilians from the effects of the war waged by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia against the Sudanese people and state institutions. The seminar brought together representatives of the United Nations, international organisations, and diplomatic missions accredited to Kenya. Suleima Izhaq presented an overview of Sudan’s National Civilian Protection Plan, outlining the government’s efforts to safeguard civilians, secure affected communities, facilitate humanitarian access, support internally displaced persons (IDPS), and restore essential services, including healthcare, education, water, and electricity. She also addressed the humanitarian consequences of violations committed by the RSF militia, including attacks on civilians, infrastructure, and public service facilities. She reaffirmed the Sudanese government’s commitment to implementing the National Civilian Protection Plan and strengthening cooperation with the United Nations and international partners to advance civilian protection and humanitarian response efforts. The seminar featured an interactive discussion during which Suleima Izhaq responded to participants’ questions on the humanitarian situation in Sudan, the challenges associated with implementing the National Civilian Protection Plan, and mechanisms for delivering humanitarian assistance and supporting affected communities.  She also called on the international community to strengthen its support for the Sudanese government’s civilian protection efforts and to hold the RSF militia accountable for violations and crimes committed against civilians.BH/BH
