Secretary-General of the Zakat Chamber Dr. Yahya Ahmed Al-Ghamrawi has arrived in Cairo to address the cases of Sudanese nationals detained in Egyptian prisons over unpaid debts. Speaking to reporters at the bus departure area in Abdeen, Cairo, Dr. Al-Amin Abdel Gadir, the Zakat Chamber’s representative on the Hope Committee for Voluntary Return, announced that preparations had been completed for the launch of 100 buses next Saturday under the patronage of the Zakat Chamber’s Secretary-General. He said the initiative would complete the first phase of the Chamber’s plan to facilitate the voluntary return of 10,000 Sudanese to Sudan in coordination with the Hope Committee. He added that 20 buses carrying 980 passengers departed on Thursday, including nine buses funded by the Zakat Chamber and 11 buses organized by the Hope Committee for Voluntary Return. Abdel Gadir said passengers had complied with the baggage regulations established for the operation. He also noted strong demand for registration, with 80% of those seeking to return being women and children. He added that the Zakat Chamber was prioritizing vulnerable families living in the Badr and 6th of October districts in Egypt. He said many families were no longer able to afford rent, prompting the committee to give them priority for return because of their difficult economic circumstances. Abdel Gadir also expressed appreciation to the Egyptian government for hosting Sudanese nationals and facilitating their return procedures. The Hope Committee for Voluntary Return also announced that it had resolved the case of 104 passengers from the Abyei Area who had been stranded aboard the vessel Sinai. Committee Chairman Mohamed Widaa said the cases of 104 people from Abyei had been resolved on a national and humanitarian basis. He added that all those who had been stranded arrived in good health and that no health complications or other problems had been reported among the passengers.BH/BH
