Geneva, July 9, 2026 – Sudan continued its participation in the WSIS Forum 2026, led by Minister of Digital Transformation and Communications Eng. Ahmed Al-Dirdiri Ghandoor, through an intensive program of ministerial engagements focused on advancing Sudan’s digital transformation and reconstruction agenda while expanding cooperation with regional and international partners.The minister took part in the forum’s ministerial session, which discussed the future of global digital cooperation, artificial intelligence policies, digital infrastructure, and digital inclusion. He emphasized that digital transformation is a national commitment aimed at building more efficient institutions, expanding access to public services, and strengthening Sudan’s position as a trusted digital bridge between Africa and the world.He called for practical partnerships that address the needs of developing, fragile, and conflict-affected countries by supporting capacity building, developing data ecosystems, expanding digital infrastructure, and ensuring sustainable financing to translate digital policies into measurable and implementable programs.On the sidelines of the forum, the minister met with his Egyptian counterpart, Eng. Raafat Hindi, Chair of the current WSIS Forum 2026, to discuss cooperation in training, capacity building, and the exchange of technical and institutional expertise to strengthen Sudan’s national workforce and keep pace with rapid developments in the telecommunications and information technology sector.As part of efforts to enhance Sudan’s role within African institutions, the minister also met with John Omo, Secretary General of the African Telecommunications Union (ATU). Their discussions focused on expanding cooperation in digital infrastructure, regional connectivity, digital transformation, and preparations for upcoming regional and international telecommunications events.The minister further held talks with Mondli Gungubele, Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies of South Africa, on opportunities for cooperation in telecommunications, digital transformation, cybersecurity, capacity building, and the development of digital infrastructure.His meetings also included discussions with Algeria’s Minister of Communications and Estonia’s Minister of Digital Transformation as part of broader efforts to strengthen consultation and exchange views on digital transformation priorities and regional and international digital cooperation.Sudan’s participation on the second day of the WSIS Forum 2026 reflects the country’s commitment to translating its international engagement into practical partnerships that support national capacity building, strengthen digital infrastructure, and align digital transformation with service delivery and post-war reconstruction priorities.BH/BH
