US$150 Million Pledged to Support Sudan’s Health Sector Recovery

Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, participated in a high-level roundtable in Washington focused on the humanitarian situation in Sudan, early recovery efforts, and rebuilding the country’s health system amid the ongoing war. The event brought together more than 45 international humanitarian and development organizations, donor institutions, and UN agencies to discuss challenges facing the health sector and opportunities to strengthen partnerships and accelerate recovery and reconstruction efforts. In his remarks, the minister affirmed that despite unprecedented challenges, Sudan is moving forward with efforts to restore health services and rehabilitate medical facilities. He stressed that recovery should not wait until the end of the war, emphasizing that investment in the health sector is an investment in stability, peace, and Sudan’s future. The roundtable resulted in US$150 million in financial and in-kind pledges to support humanitarian programs, early recovery initiatives, and the rebuilding of the health sector. The commitments reflect international partners’ confidence in Sudan’s capacity and the resilience of its health system to advance recovery efforts and improve healthcare delivery for citizens. The event concluded with an emphasis on the importance of continued coordination between the government and international partners, and building on these partnerships to expand health and humanitarian interventions that improve the lives of millions of Sudanese. The program was organized and coordinated by the Sudanese American Physicians Association (SAPA) and was attended by Sudan’s Ambassador to Washington and a number of diplomats.BH/BH
