At the conclusion of his participation in the WSIS Forum 2026 in Geneva, Minister of Digital Transformation and Communications, Eng. Ahmed Al-Dirdiri Ghondour, met with Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in the presence of Ambassador Hassan Hamid, Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva. During the meeting, the minister reaffirmed Sudan’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the ITU and regional and international partners to advance digital transformation, expand access to communications services, and support the Union’s vision of connecting the unconnected and enabling communities to benefit from digital services. He also praised the ITU’s contribution to maintaining and developing Sudan’s telecommunications sector, highlighting projects implemented by the organization in the country, including the Regional Internet of Things (IoT) Center and the Emergency Telecommunications System. For her part, ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin reaffirmed the Union’s commitment to working with Sudan and its partners to implement the resolution supporting Sudan adopted at the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC) in Baku. She said the ITU would leverage its expertise and partnerships to strengthen Sudan’s digital infrastructure, build institutional and human capacity, train Sudanese professionals, and implement related development projects. Bogdan-Martin also commended Sudan’s active and continuous participation in ITU activities, as well as its contribution to shaping sector priorities and advancing policies and regulatory frameworks that support digital development across the Arab and African regions.BH/BH
