The General Directorate of Dams at the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation confirmed that the country’s water situation remains stable, with above-average inflows recorded in the White Nile and Blue Nile through mid-July.In a statement issued on Thursday, the administration said the latest technical readings indicate that White Nile inflows and levels remain above the general average and last year’s levels.The Jebel Aulia Dam also recorded positive stability exceeding previous years’ averages, while total Blue Nile inflows showed good water levels surpassing those of last year.The statement noted a temporary decline in the daily inflow to the Roseires Dam between July 7 and 9, 2026, dropping from 207 million cubic meters to 129 million cubic meters per day, a decrease of 76 million cubic meters.It explained that the decline resulted in reduced outflows downstream of the Roseires Dam by 100 million cubic meters per day and by about 82 million cubic meters downstream of the Sennar Dam between July 7 and 10.The decline led to a temporary drop in Nile levels at several monitoring stations, recording 1.50 meters at Roseires, 1.70 meters at Wad Al-Ayis, 1.60 meters at Wad Madani, 1.08 meters in Khartoum, 94 centimeters at Al-Halfaya, and 54 centimeters at Shendi.The Directorate pointed out that water levels in areas north of Khartoum remain higher than those recorded during the previous year as of July 15, 2026.It attributed the temporary decline to reduced Blue Nile inflows due to lower discharges from the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam during that period, stressing that changes in the river’s hydrology are being managed through the technical operation of reservoirs to ensure stable water supplies.The General Directorate of Dams announced the formation of a permanent higher committee under the supervision of Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Prof. Issmat Gurashi and Undersecretary Eng. Daw Al-Bait Abdelrahman, chaired by the Head of the Technical Unit for Water Resources, to monitor the water situation around the clock and take appropriate operational decisions.The Ministry reassured citizens and farmers that dams operations are carried out according to precise scientific standards that ensure the safety of facilities and secure water needs for citizens and the agricultural sector, supporting stable water supplies and the success of the agricultural season.BH/BH
