General Nuba Union Activates Structures to Support Social Peace, Reaffirms Backing for Armed Forces

Khartoum, July 18, 2026 (SUNA) – The General Nuba Union announced the activation of its structures and offices in Khartoum and other states to promote peace, strengthen social cohesion, and address the adverse effects of the war waged by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia against the country. The Union also renewed its support for the Sudanese Armed Forces in the “Battle of Dignity.” Speaking at the Ministry of Culture, Information, Antiquities and Tourism’s media forum, organized by the Sudan News Agency (SUNA) at the Omdurman Cultural Center, Union Chairman Mohamed Abu Anja Abu Ras said the Union is currently working on two key initiatives. The first is a conference bringing together all Nuba communities to discuss internal issues, while the second is a dialogue project between the Nuba and the State to discuss matters that serve the country’s broader national interest. He said the Union is currently conducting consultations with state institutions and Nuba traditional and community leaders to develop a shared vision for the internal dialogue process. He praised the sacrifices of the Sudanese Armed Forces, saying they had fully carried out their role in the Battle of Dignity, and noted that Sudan, as a country with an ancient civilization, is capable of overcoming its current challenges. Addressing the country’s political situation, he said: “After this war, we need to engage in honest self-reflection to overcome division and identify our shared national interests.”He added that the situation in the country requires everyone to demonstrate patriotism, confront the truth with honesty, pass those lessons on to future generations, reject harmful foreign interference, and acknowledge past political mistakes as a basis for reconciliation.BH/BH
