Nairobi, July 19 (QNA) – Team Qatar from QatarDebate Center, a member of Qatar Foundation, is competing in the 2026 World Schools Debating Championship (WSDC), currently underway in Nairobi, Kenya, with the participation of more than 80 countries.

In a statement on Sunday, QatarDebate Center said Team Qatar’s participation, under the patronage of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, reflects the Center’s ongoing efforts to prepare national talent for international competition by developing critical thinking, analytical, and public speaking skills, while providing debaters with opportunities to compete against leading teams from around the world and gain experience in a highly competitive environment.

The team comprises Alanoud Al Kaabi, AlGhalya Al Mejali, Fatima Al Rashid, Mohammed Al Humaidi, and Ameera Al Ishaq.

The Center said the team is coached by Alanoud Hamad Saud Al-Thani, while Fatima Marafi is serving as an adjudicator at the championship, underscoring QatarDebate’s success in developing Qatari talent capable of competing and adjudicating at major international debating tournaments.

AlGhalya Al Mejali, a member of Team Qatar, expressed pride in representing Qatar at the championship, saying the team was fully aware of the responsibility of competing on the world stage.

She said the championship provided an important opportunity to compete against some of the world’s top debating teams and gain valuable experience, adding that the team was committed to delivering its best performance in a manner that reflected the caliber of Qatari debaters and did justice to the country’s name.

Team coach Alanoud Hamad Saud Al-Thani said the training program had focused on strengthening the participants’ critical thinking and analytical skills, while enhancing their responsiveness, argumentation, and public speaking abilities.

She said the program aimed to equip team members with the confidence to engage effectively with a wide range of debate motions and deliver a performance that reflected the extensive preparation undertaken for the championship.

QatarDebate Center has participated in the World Schools Debating Championship since 2010, reflecting its long-standing commitment to nurturing a new generation of debaters capable of representing Qatar on the global stage while strengthening the country’s profile in regional and international debating.
