Cairo, July 20 (QNA) – The Arab League has stressed the importance of strengthening the Palestinian and Arab presence in Jerusalem City to confront any attempts to obliterate the Palestinian identity and Judaize the city.

During his meeting with Minister of Jerusalem Affairs of the State of Palestine Ashraf Al Awar at the League’s General Secretariat in Cairo, Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy said the Jerusalem cause has a central place in the hearts of Arabs and Muslims.

Promoting the indomitability of Jerusalemites is a priority for the League as a pillar of supporting the Palestinian national project, Fahmy added, emphasizing that this cause stands as a consequential symbol of the Palestinian issue.

Therefore, the Israeli occupation seeks to eliminate this symbolism through the Palestinian effacement and the Judaization of the city, he noted.

Fahmy further explained that East Jerusalem remains an occupied city under international law, calling for standing up to attempts to alter the historic status quo in the Old City being embarked upon by the Israeli far-right government with the aim of imposing a temporal and spatial division of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

For his part, Al Awar outlined the evolving situation in occupied Jerusalem City, along with the travails of its inhabitants due to the Judaization policies pursued by the occupation government to depopulate the city through leveling homes and systematically strangulating the Palestinians and isolating Jerusalem from the West Bank.
