Doha, July 22 (QNA) -The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs on Wednesday announced the winners of the current edition of the Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al-Thani Endowment Award, in both its international and local categories.
Speaking at a press conference held for the occasion, Assistant Director of the Research and Studies Department at the Ministry Mishari Ali Al Namlan said that the Award’s international category went to both Dr. Ahmed Dib of Algeria and Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Yahya of Yemen, each receiving QAR 100,000.
The local category prize worth QAR 200,000 was won by Qatari researcher Ahmed Muejab Deraa Al Dosari, who works in guidance and counseling at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Al Namlan added.
The Assistant Director of the Research and Studies Department pointed out that this edition of the Award attracted broad participation, with more than 70 researchers from 16 countries competing for the international category, while nine researchers took part in the local category.
Consisting of the international, local, and imam categories, the Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al-Thani Endowment Award has enriched Arabic and Islamic scholarship with high-quality academic research, including submissions that did not win, he added.
With the aim of promoting scholarly research and preparing a new generation of researchers and specialists in Islamic sciences, Al Namlan pointed out that this is the first and largest peer-reviewed endowment award in Qatar dedicated to culture, Islamic outreach (da’wah), and Islamic thought.
The Assistant Director of the Research and Studies Department noted that the imams category is dedicated to imams, preachers, and muezzins working for the Ministry.
Starting 2029, the total value of prizes across all three categories will increase to QAR 1.1 million, in addition to each category having three winners each, a move that seeks to broaden participation and promote research in Islamic thought and contemporary issues, Al Namlan pointed out.
He also highlighted the rich scholarly output the Award has seen over its three decades of existence. (QNA)
