Cairo, July 23 (QNA) – The Arab League today expressed strong condemnation and categorical rejection of the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by thousands of settlers under the protection of the Israeli occupation police and with the participation of Israeli government ministers.

The League warned of the serious consequences of the continuation of these systematic violations and incursions carried out by extremists with the approval, encouragement, and participation of the occupation authorities and their extremist ministers.

In a statement, Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy noted the sharp escalation in the frequency of these incursions in recent months, reflecting an ongoing plan to divide Al-Aqsa Mosque both temporally and spatially. He stressed the extreme danger of this plan, which is being pursued by a group of Israeli extremists who control the occupation government and dictate its policies.

He affirmed that the Israeli entity has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem or its Islamic and Christian holy sites, and that its attempts to alter the existing legal and historical status quo in the Old City constitute a violation of international law.

The occupation government’s continued provocation of Arab and Muslim sentiments in this manner threatens to ignite tensions and fuel anger over the disregard for holy sites, he warned.

Fahmy also noted that the Jerusalem Waqf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, of the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, is the sole authority responsible for managing the affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque and regulating entry to it. (QNA)
