New York, July 23 (QNA) – Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi and Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), Antonio Guterres on Thursday discussed the latest developments unfolding the region and their repercussions on the regional and international security, stability and economy.

This came in a meeting held on the sidelines of Albudaiwi’s participation in the UN Security Council High-Level Open Debate in New York.

During the meeting, several topics were discussed, most notably reviewing and addressing the latest developments in the region and their impact on regional and international security, stability, and economy.

Albudaiwi stressed that the treacherous Iranian attacks against the GCC states and the systematic targeting of infrastructure underline Iran’s desire to destabilise security and stability and undermine peace efforts, highlighting the significance of putting an end to these attacks and deterring Iran from continuing its aggressive policies to safeguard international peace and security.

From his side, the UN Secretary General expressed his renewed solidarity with the GCC states against the Iranian attacks and reiterated the importance of halting these attacks that threaten security and stability.

Furthermore, the two officials exchanged views on a number of regional files and the ongoing efforts concerning them, in addition to exploring ways to enhance cooperative ties between the GCC and the UN.​ (QNA)
