Qatar Tennis Team Reaches Asia/Oceania Group IV Semifinals at Davis Cup

Colombo, July 24 (QNA) – The Qatari national tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the Asia/Oceania Group IV Davis Cup tournament today, currently being held in the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo.
Qatar secured its spot after finishing second in Group B with a 1-1 record. After dropping their opening tie 2-1 to hosts Sri Lanka, the Qatari squad bounced back with a 2-1 victory over the Northern Mariana Islands.
The team will face Kyrgyzstan in tomorrow’s (Saturday) semifinal match, where a victory would secure them a spot in the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group III.
Represented by brothers Mousa and Mubarak Shanan alongside Jabor Al Mutawa, the Qatari team prepared for the tournament with an intensive two-week training camp in Thailand.
Following the victory, player Jabor Al-Mutawa highlighted the importance of tomorrow’s matchup, stating that all players are fully focused on securing the win and achieving promotion to Group III.
Under the tournament format, the first round was played as a single round-robin, with the top two teams from each group advancing to a crossover semifinal. The winners of each group face the runners-up of the opposite group, with both semifinal victors earning promotion to the higher group. (QNA)
