New York, July 24 (QNA) – The United Nations warned today of escalating violence across the occupied West Bank, calling for the protection of civilians.
Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Ramiz Alekperov expressed grave concern over the continued civilian casualties throughout the West Bank. He emphasized that the escalation of violence over the past week has resulted in further Palestinian civilian casualties, displacement, property damage, and increased insecurity in affected communities.
He stated that Palestinians continue to be killed and injured, and Israeli settler attacks on Palestinian communities, places of worship, and civilian infrastructure persist. He also stressed the need for the occupying forces to take immediate steps to prevent settler violence, protect Palestinian communities, and ensure accountability for those responsible for the attacks.
Regarding the situation in Gaza, the UN official said that the nature of the challenge in the Strip has transcended the issue of humanitarian access, as funding has become the greatest threat to food security in the Strip. He cautioned that the situation on the ground remains extremely fragile.
The United Nations stressed that, under the conditions in which people live in Gaza, humanitarian aid is not just ordinary support but a lifeline. (QNA)
