Romania Says Third Drone Shot Down Over its Territory

Bucharest, July 26 (QNA) – Romania’s Defense Ministry said on Sunday its air defenses had shot down a fresh drone within the country’s territorial waters.

“On Sunday, July 26th, at 10:13, a Romanian Air Force F-16 aircraft shot down a drone that had entered the national airspace without authorization,” read a ministry statement.

The ministry said the drone was “safely” downed 12 km northeast of Sulina, without providing further information.

The incident marked the third time Romania has downed a drone over its territory since Friday.

President Nicusor Dan said investigations into the drones shot down Saturday and Sunday were underway. But he confirmed the drone shot down on Friday morning was a Shahed-type drone used by Russia against Ukraine.

He condemned what he described as Russian violations of Romanian airspace, calling them “unacceptable” and saying they could not be tolerated. (QNA)
