Prime Minister Professor Kamil Idris has issued a package of key decisions aimed at addressing teachers’ concerns and improving the living conditions of public education employees. The decisions were announced during a meeting with the Minister of National Education, Dr. Al-Tohami Al-Zain Hajar, attended by the Minister of Federal Governance and Rural Development, Mohamed Salih Kortikela, the Minister of Finance, Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim, the Prime Minister’s Adviser, Nizar Abdullah Mohamed, Abbas Habiballah, Chairperson of the General Union of Public Education Workers, and the Union’s Secretary-General, Ridwan Adam.  Speaking to the press, the Minister of National said the meeting focused on addressing issues affecting the education sector and teachers. He noted that the Prime Minister issued several important decisions, including the immediate implementation of circulars issued by the Council of Ministers and the Civil Service Bureau. The Prime Minister also directed that outstanding salaries, allowances, and benefits be paid according to a schedule extending through the end of the 2026 fiscal year, with disbursements to begin in August 2026. In addition, the decisions exempt the children of public education employees from examination fees at all levels of general education, including the Sudanese Secondary School Certificate examinations, intermediate school examinations, and primary school examinations. The package further provides for the centralization of teachers’ salary payments beginning with the next fiscal year, effective January 2027. The Minister of National Education affirmed that these decisions reflect the Prime Minister’s strong commitment to the education sector and his recognition of addressing teachers’ concerns as a fundamental pillar of national progress. For his part, the Secretary-General of the General Union of Public Education Workers in Sudan expressed full satisfaction with the outcomes of the meeting, describing the decision to centralize teachers’ salaries as a significant step toward enhancing their professional and financial stability. He also praised the positive response of the Council of Ministers and the Ministries of Finance and Federal Governance and Rural Development. The Union Chairperson reaffirmed the union’s commitment to ensuring that education and healthcare remain at the forefront of national priorities as the foundation for building a prosperous future for Sudan.BH/BH
