Amman, Aug. 5 (Petra) — Secretary-General of the Royal Committee for
Jerusalem Affairs, Abdullah Kanaan, emphasized the critical role of
the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in
Jerusalem in safeguarding the city’s Arab, Islamic, and Christian
identity.

Delivered during a lecture at Al-Hussein Technical University,
Kanaan’s remarks addressed the religious, historical, and legal
status of Jerusalem, highlighting the ongoing efforts of His Majesty
King Abdullah II, the Custodian of the holy sites, to defend the city
and counter Israeli violations. He stressed the importance of
fostering youth awareness regarding the history and present reality
of Jerusalem.

Kanaan reviewed royal initiatives led by His Majesty King Abdullah II
to serve the holy city, noting international awards and honors
bestowed upon His Majesty in recognition of his efforts to promote
interfaith dialogue, moderation, tolerance, and harmony. He also
cited Royal initiatives aimed at strengthening the religious and
cultural role of Al-Aqsa Mosque and conveying its message of
coexistence and peace.

Furthermore, Kanaan highlighted the pioneering efforts of His Royal
Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal, particularly the establishment
of the Jerusalem Endowment (Waqfiyah) as a strategic development
initiative to support the resilience of Jerusalemites and foster
sustainable development in the holy city.

On the sidelines of the lecture, the university screened a
documentary film titled “The Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and
Christian Holy Sites in Jerusalem,” produced by the Royal Committee
for Jerusalem Affairs and directed by Firas Olayan.

Sawsan Al-Kilani, Director of Public Relations and Media at the
committee, also moderated an interactive Q&A session with students on
the history and holy sites of Jerusalem.
