Singa, Aug. 7, 2026 (SUNA) – The Ministry of Animal Resources and Fisheries in Sennar State has received a solar-powered integrated cold chain system from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to ensure the safe storage of veterinary vaccines for livestock in remote and vulnerable areas. Dr. Mawahib Al-Amin Yousif, Director General of the ministry in Sennar State, told SUNA that the unit is part of the Norwegian-funded Livestock Support Project and has been designated for Abu Eraif in Al-Dali and Al-Mazmum Locality, where access is often cut off during the rainy season and unreliable electricity supplies make it difficult to preserve veterinary vaccines safely. She praised the long-standing partnership with FAO, which has previously provided a mobile veterinary clinic to support animal disease control in the state.  For his part, Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Tibin, Head of the FAO Office in Sennar State, said the unit forms part of the organization’s vaccine cold chain project, which aims to ensure the safe storage and distribution of veterinary vaccines while supporting the collection of disease surveillance samples. He added that similar cold storage units have already been deployed to Al-Azaza Damous in Al-Dinder Locality and Al-Dali area, expanding veterinary services and strengthening livestock health systems across the state.BH/BH
