53 days left to rectify status of undocumented workers: Labor Ministry

Amman, August 8 (Petra) –Ministry of Labor urged employers in all
sectors and economic activities and homeowners to seize the
remaining period for regularizing the legal status of undocumented
non-Jordanian workers of all nationalities, which ends on September
30.

In a statement Saturday, the ministry spokesperson Mohammad Zyoud
said only 53 days are left of the regularization period approved by
the Cabinet last June.

Zyoud ruled out extension to this grace period, adding that the
financial exemptions will remain unchanged as approved in the Cabinet
decision.

On its future policy, he affirmed the ministry will intensify
inspection visits across various sectors and economic activities in
all governorates to identify and deport undocumented non-Jordanian
workers.

As for its scope, he noted that the Cabinet decision featured
financial exemptions to ease the burden on employers and homeowners.

As a privilige, he stated the gov’t move also allowed employers to
benefit from existing non-Jordanian workers in the Kingdom’s labor
market by permitting their transfer in most of the country’s sectors.
