Berlin, August 10 (QNA) – Germany considers US President Donald Trump’s plans for the Gaza Strip an opportunity to make a breakthrough toward achieving peace and pushing toward demilitarizing the enclave, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Annika Claassen-Idriss said during a press conference.
The ministry’s remarks came in response to the standoff with Israel over synchronizing the demilitarization of Gaza with the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Strip.
The 15-point plan contemplates ending military operations in Gaza and linking the withdrawal of Israeli forces to disarmament, with these two steps to be phased and reciprocal, with each phase subject to verification before moving on to the next phase.
High Representative for Gaza Nickolay Mladenov presented the plan for the first time before the UN Security Council on May 21 as a mechanism for implementing the second phase of Trump’s original 20-point plan, which resulted in a ceasefire deal in October 2025.
Mladenov remarked that the plan is based on a tit-for-tat approach, with each step implemented by one of the parties to be met with a corresponding step by the other party, while subjecting implementation to an independent verification mechanism that includes the guarantors, the International Stabilization Force and the Board of Peace.
He clarified that if one of the parties failed to live up to its obligations in a certain phase, the next phase would not commence. (QNA)
