New York, August 10 (Petra) – The UN Relief and Works Agency for
Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) called on Israeli authorities Monday to
“honor their obligations as a UN member state” and respect agency
operations at East Jerusalem’s Kalandia Training Centre.
UNRWA stated that educating Palestinian refugee children remains
central to its mandate, rejecting claims that education is not a top
priority.
The agency provides primary education to nearly 48,000 children
across the occupied West Bank, alongside vocational training for
2,000 young men and women.
UNRWA stated that the Kalandia Training Centre operates in occupied
East Jerusalem, where Israel holds no sovereign rights under
international law.
Citing an October 2025 International Court of Justice affirmation,
UNRWA said that Israel remains legally required to assist agency
operations throughout occupied Palestinian territory.
