Bogota, August 10 (QNA) – Colombia’s earthquake death toll rose to 111 on Monday, after a 7.4-magnitude quake struck the western part of the country.
President Abelardo de la Espriella declared a state of national disaster, saying at least 111 people were killed and 87 injured.
Rescue teams are searching for survivors in affected cities, including Pereira, Cali, Manizales and Quibdo.
Around 1,575 homes were damaged, including 37 destroyed, while 61 buildings collapsed or suffered severe damage. Schools, hospitals and roads were also affected.
Risaralda Governor Juan Diego Patino said 42 people were killed in the coffee-growing region, which recorded the highest death toll.
In Cali, at least 30 buildings collapsed, while a tower of Manizales’ historic cathedral also fell. Flights were suspended at six western airports. (QNA)
