Amman, Aug. 12 (Petra) — The Arab Potash Company (APC) has begun
implementing a 30-megawatt peak (MWp) photovoltaic solar power plant
in Ghor al-Safi to supply its facilities with electricity as part of
its strategy to expand reliance on renewable energy.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the company explained that the
project supports its long-term plan to improve operational
efficiency, diversify energy sources and advance sustainability
initiatives in line with Jordan’s transition toward a green economy.

APC Chairperson Shehadeh Abu Hudeib said the project represents a
strategic step toward increasing the company’s use of renewable
energy and improving energy efficiency, while supporting Jordan’s
efforts to strengthen energy security and develop a green economy.

He underscored that investment in alternative energy sources has
become a strategic priority for major industrial companies amid rapid
changes in global energy markets and the need for more flexible
operational systems capable of adapting to future developments.

Abu Hudeib added that renewable energy investments are no longer
aimed solely at reducing operating costs, but are an integral part of
the company’s efforts to improve environmental sustainability,
enhance operational efficiency and strengthen competitiveness.

APC CEO Maan Nsour said the new plant will use advanced technologies
and be implemented according to international standards for solar
energy projects to ensure high operational and production efficiency.

He explained that the project forms part of the company’s broader
efforts to transform its energy system, reduce its carbon footprint
and improve energy efficiency, while supporting the competitiveness
of its products in international markets where demand is growing for
environmentally sustainable products.

Nsour stressed that the project complements the company’s clean
energy initiatives, particularly its floating solar power plant,
reflecting APC’s commitment to innovative solutions that support
sustainable operations and prepare the company for future
requirements.

Philadelphia Solar CEO and founder Abdulrahman Shehadeh said his
company is implementing the project through a consortium with
Tarkibat Company for Electro-Mechanical Construction. He described
the project as a demonstration of the advanced capabilities of
Jordanian companies in implementing renewable energy projects for the
industrial sector.
