Signs MoU to Develop Strategic Ground Handling Partnership in Algeria

Algiers,
13 Aug 2026 (ONA) — TRANSOM signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Air
Algérie Group to establish a strategic partnership for ground handling services
and other aviation-related services in Algeria, in a move paving the way for a
new phase of TRANSOM’s international presence, aimed at enhancing operational
value in the Algerian market.

The
strategic agreement aims to integrate TRANSOM’s operational expertise with the
established capabilities of Air Algérie Group, opening new horizons to enhance
efficiency and operational excellence, and contributing to keeping pace with
the aspirations of the Algerian aviation sector toward further growth and development.

The
MoU was signed by Nasser Ahmed Al Sharji, Acting CEO of Oman Airports and CEO
of TRANSOM, while on the Algerian side it was signed by Hamza Benhamouda, Chief
Executive Officer of Air Algérie Group.

Nasser
Ahmed Al Sharji explained that the MoU represents TRANSOM’s first step in the
North Africa region and a milestone in the company’s international expansion
journey.

He
noted that the size of the Algerian aviation market, along with its
connectivity and promising growth potential, gives strategic importance to this
move for TRANSOM. He added that based on an experience spanning over 50 years
in the aviation sector, the company looks forward to deploying its operational
expertise in this market, contributing to enhancing performance, boosting
operational efficiency, and building the necessary capabilities to support the
next phase of growth in Algeria’s aviation sector.

For
his part, Hamza Benhamouda stated that the MoU represents an important step
toward elevating the travel experience by improving the quality of ground
handling services at Algerian airports and opening broader horizons for future
service development. He added that cooperation between Air Algérie Group, Oman
Airports, and TRANSOM constitutes a key milestone toward elevating the standard
of services provided to customers and building new opportunities for
cooperation and integration across various fields of aviation services.

In
its international expansion, TRANSOM relies on integrated operational expertise
and a broad ecosystem of aviation services encompassing ground handling, cargo,
catering, and hospitality services, backed by Omani expertise and competencies
that have proven their ability to operate efficiently across diverse
operational environments in accordance with the highest international
standards. Building on its well-established operations at the airports of the
Sultanate of Oman, TRANSOM achieved a qualitative step in its African expansion
through its operations in Tanzania across the airports of Dar es Salaam,
Kilimanjaro, and Mwanza, thereby consolidating a growing operational presence
on the African continent and continuing to build upon its expertise in managing
and delivering aviation services across diverse international markets.

The
move toward the Algerian market comes as an extension of this ambition,
extending beyond mere geographical expansion to form a strategic step toward
deepening TRANSOM’s presence on the African continent, transferring Omani
expertise and capabilities to new markets, and cementing its position as an
Omani aviation services provider possessing the expertise, competitiveness, and
