Doha, August 13 (QNA) – The Marine Protection Department of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) spotted a seahorse, locally known as Buzaizi, within the Khor Al Adaid Nature Reserve at Sealine Beach, during a field survey to document marine species and monitor their natural habitats.
The monitoring work confirmed the presence of the seahorse in seagrass areas, which are among its main habitats.
The field inspection also showed that the site is in good environmental condition and provides suitable conditions for the continued presence of the species. Diving teams found no visible signs of violations or direct environmental impacts at the site.
The Ministry affirmed that the seahorse is a rare marine fish of ecological importance and a vital indicator of the health of the marine ecosystem, noting that its presence inside Khor Al Adaid Reserve reflects the importance of natural habitats, particularly seagrass areas, in supporting biodiversity.
MOECC stressed the importance of preserving these habitats, reducing practices that may affect marine life, and strengthening monitoring and protection efforts to support the sustainability of marine species and habitats and preserve Qatar’s rich biodiversity. (QNA)
