Khartoum, Aug. 15, 2026 (SUNA) – President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, affirmed that the Sudanese Armed Forces are and will remain the army of Sudan, rejecting the existence of political or tribal affiliations within its ranks and stressing that the Armed Forces are governed by regulations and laws. Addressing a ceremony organized by Khartoum State at the Khartoum State Legislative Council on Saturday to mark the 72nd anniversary of Sudanese Armed Forces Day, Al-Burhan said the leadership’s role is to develop and prepare the Armed Forces to defend the homeland, its dignity and honor. Al-Burhan saluted the Armed Forces and supporting forces fighting on various fronts in defense of the country, and paid tribute to the martyrs of the Sudanese people and the residents of Khartoum for their patience and steadfastness. He directed the state government not to burden citizens with excessive fees and taxes, to promote social solidarity, and to encourage and facilitate voluntary returns.He also noted that the government is continuing efforts to provide water and electricity services and rehabilitate hospitals. For his part, Wali of Khartoum State Ahmed Othman Hamza saluted the Armed Forces, represented by its Commander-in-Chief, for leading the “Battle of Dignity,” which, he said, is achieving new victories every day, expressing optimism that complete victory in the country is imminent. The Wali expressed his appreciation to all those who contributed to the celebration, greeted the martyrs and wounded, and wished for the victorious return of those who remain missing. He said that the honoring initiative launched by the state on this occasion would continue to include all entities that have participated in the “Battle of Dignity.” During the ceremony, which was attended by commanders of the Armed Forces and supporting forces, the General Intelligence Service, police, native administration leaders, Sufi orders, members of the cultural and creative communities, and a large number of citizens, the Commander-in-Chief and commanders of military areas in Khartoum were honored. The ceremony was also addressed by Al-Tayeb Saad-Eddin, chairman of the organizing committee, who expressed appreciation for the Armed Forces and their role in liberating Khartoum, describing them as a symbol of national pride and unity. Representatives of native administrations and Sufi orders, the chairman of the Higher Council for Social Peace, the head of the state’s Popular Resistance, and the head of the State Women’s Union also addressed the ceremony, along with representatives of North and South Kordofan and Darfur states and a representative of the Joint Forces.BH/BH
