Minister of Industry and Trade Mohasin Ali Yaqoub inspected industrial facilities in Nile River State as part of preparations to launch a number of strategic projects aimed at boosting domestic production and supporting Sudan’s economy. Mahasin toured the Al-Qimma Food Processing Complex in Shendi and reviewed projects being implemented by the Defense Industries System, focusing on import substitution, adding value to local agricultural products, creating jobs and strengthening production chains. The integrated complex includes plants for dehydrating fruits and vegetables, potato products, concentrates, starch and glucose, as well as an export-preparation center and refrigerated storage facilities with a capacity of around 10,000 tons. The minister said the complex represents a practical model for developing Sudan’s industrial base and strengthening food security by reducing reliance on imports. She highlighted the integration of the complex with the Al-Qimma agricultural project, covering around 30,000 feddans, which supplies agricultural products for processing and supports expansion in agro-processing and exports. Deputy Director-General of the Defense Industries System Al-Jaily Abu Shama said the project seeks to increase domestic production, replace imports, create jobs and generate greater value from agricultural products. He also highlighted partnerships between the public and private sectors and direct cooperation with farmers and small producers. The minister also inspected the Shendi Textile Factory, reviewing its modernization and rehabilitation efforts. She said Sudan has the resources and capabilities to restore its textile industry, achieve self-sufficiency and expand exports, particularly given the availability of raw materials, agricultural resources and skilled labor.BH/BH
