Southern Military Region foils drug smuggling attempt using drone

Amman, August 18 (Petra) The Southern Military Region on Tuesday
thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotics into
Jordan using a drone within its area of responsibility, the Jordan
Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) said.

Border Guard units detected the drone, engaged it and shot it down
inside Jordanian territory. The narcotics cargo was seized in
coordination with the relevant security and military agencies and the
Anti-Narcotics Department.

The seized items were handed over to the competent authorities to
take the necessary legal and investigative measures.

The JAF affirmed that all attempts at smuggling or infiltration,
regardless of the methods or means used, will be met with firmness
and determination, employing all available operational and
intelligence capabilities.

It stated that Border Guard units remain at the highest levels of
readiness to counter any attempts that could threaten the Kingdom’s
security and stability.

JAF said it continues to conduct operations to protect Jordan’s
borders, combat drug smuggling and prevent the exploitation of border
areas for activities that could endanger national security and
people’s safety as part of an integrated system of monitoring,
control and coordination with the relevant authorities.
