KHARTOUM, August 18, 2026 (SUNA) — Prime Minister Professor Kamil Idris announced a package of decisions and directives on Tuesday aimed at easing the cost of living and encouraging the voluntary return of citizens. The measures include exempting all citizens from residential water fees through the end of 2026, alongside directives to improve water supplies and add new water stations. Idris also confirmed the exemption of all imported solar energy systems for personal use from customs duties, taxes and other government fees. He directed the Ministries of Finance and Human Resources and Social Welfare, together with the Central Bank of Sudan, to facilitate affordable financing for solar energy systems for personal use. The Prime Minister further ordered the activation and regulation of discounted sales centers and markets nationwide to help reduce the cost of living, directing regional governors, state walis and relevant authorities to coordinate fully in implementing the measure.The decisions were announced following an expanded meeting chaired by Idris in Khartoum and attended by the ministers of Industry and Trade, Energy and Minerals, State Minister for Finance Mohamed Nour Abdeldaim, Cabinet Secretary-General Ali Mohamed Ali, Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ambassador Muawiya Othman Khalid, Undersecretary of Culture, Information and Tourism Dr. Graham Abdelgadir, and First Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan Al-Mo’tasem Abdullah Ahmed.BH/BH
