Amman, Aug. 19 (Petra) — The Southern Military Zone officers on
Wednesday thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of
narcotics into Jordan using a guided balloon carrying the illicit
cargo.
Border guard units within their area of responsibility detected,
intercepted, and brought down the guided balloon inside Jordanian
territory, seizing its payload in coordination with military and
security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department.
The seized narcotics were handed over to the competent authorities to
complete the necessary legal and investigative procedures.
The Jordan Armed Forces Arab Army reaffirmed its commitment to
countering smuggling and infiltration attempts regardless of the
methods used, stressing that its border guard units remain fully
prepared to deploy operational and intelligence capabilities to
neutralize threats targeting the kingdom’s security and stability.
