Amman, Aug. 27 (Petra) — Construction has begun on a JD2.6 million
public transport terminal at the King Hussein Bridge, aimed at easing
traffic congestion around the border crossing and improving services
for arriving and departing passengers.

Work is now under way on the 17.5-dunum site adjacent to the border
center, starting with excavation and preparations for a temporary
parking area for vehicles serving the crossing. Barriers are also
being installed along the main entrance road to facilitate the
movement of construction equipment.

The project is being coordinated with the relevant authorities
responsible for water, electricity and telecommunications networks to
accommodate existing utility infrastructure during construction.

The terminal is scheduled for completion within 12 months, with the
project expected to be finished by August 2027.

Once completed, the facility will provide 138 parking spaces for
medium-sized and small buses operating services at the bridge, along
with 87 spaces for private vehicles, including two designated for
people with disabilities.

The project will also provide two loading spaces for tourist rental
vehicles and four charging spaces for electric vehicles.

Plans include several air-conditioned administrative and service
buildings powered in part by a solar energy system.

A two-story administrative and commercial building covering 1,300
square meters will house a passenger waiting area, prayer room,
retail outlets and administrative offices.

Other facilities will include a rest area for drivers, a building for
traffic controllers, a tire maintenance station and shaded areas
throughout the terminal.

The development is designed to reorganize public transport operations
around the King Hussein Bridge, reduce congestion at the crossing
entrance and provide more convenient and integrated facilities for
passengers and transport operators.
