Sudan’s national digital identity platform, SudaPass, has been selected among 15 finalists in the Digital Frontiers category of the Digital@UNGA 2026 awards, organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). SudaPass was selected from more than 1,500 entries representing 146 countries following a review and evaluation process conducted by an independent panel of experts. The Digital Frontiers category focuses on pioneering and future-oriented projects that use technology responsibly to address challenges and contribute to building a more inclusive digital future. Projects are evaluated based on governance, future readiness, measurable impact and scalability. SudaPass reaching the final stage represents an important international milestone for Sudan and reflects the achievements of national expertise in building one of the foundations of digital government. A trusted digital identity provides a unified and secure foundation for connecting government services and transactions, facilitating citizens’ access to services while improving security and efficiency. Minister of Digital Transformation and Telecommunications Engineer Ahmed El-Dirdiri Ghandour said that SudaPass’ selection as a Digital@UNGA finalist places one of Sudan’s key digital future projects on an international platform. He said the digital identity system enables citizens to prove their identity and access services securely while providing state institutions with a unified foundation for delivering more efficient and interconnected services. Addressing the SudaPass team, the Minister said they had demonstrated that Sudanese youth are capable of transforming knowledge into achievement and ambition into accomplishments recognized by the world. The winners are scheduled to be announced in New York on September 21, 2026, during the Digital@UNGA 2026 awards ceremony.BH/BH
