NEW YORK, (SUNA) — Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Mohi-Eddin Salem met on Friday with his counterpart, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The meeting discussed bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and ways to strengthen cooperation and coordination, as well as an exchange of views on a number of regional and international issues of common interest. The Minister briefed his counterpart on political, security, and humanitarian developments in Sudan, stressing the importance of African solidarity, support for Sudanese state institutions, and the preservation of Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. The two sides also discussed Sudan-related issues before the United Nations Security Council. The Minister affirmed Sudan’s position that Council measures should contribute to supporting security and stability and should not undermine the ability of national state institutions to carry out their responsibilities. The two officials agreed to continue consultations and coordination in the coming period and to strengthen communication between the two countries’ foreign ministries and permanent missions to the United Nations, in a manner that serves their common interests and enhances cooperation at regional and international forums.BH/BH
