Singapore, October 19 (QNA) – The US dollar edged higher in Asian trading on Monday, recovering from near-monthly lows, while the euro weakened, helping keep the dollar index broadly steady at 101.83.
The euro fell 0.1% to $1.1225. As the single currency carries the largest weighting in the US Dollar Index, its decline helped offset pressure on the greenback.
Against the Japanese yen, the dollar was little changed at 158.00 yen after Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda said underlying inflation was “quite close” to the central bank’s 2% target.
The dollar also held steady at 6.6842 yuan in offshore trading ahead of the release of China’s third-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) data.
Among other major currencies, the Australian dollar gained 0.3% to $0.6965, while the New Zealand dollar was unchanged at $0.5656 and the British pound held steady at $1.3329. (QNA)
