National Food Industry Strategy 2027–2029 Unveils 18 Initiatives to Boost Export Competitiveness

AMMAN, Oct. 21 (Petra) – The National Strategy for the Food
Processing Industry (2027–2029) establishes a structural
transformation roadmap centered on seven strategic pillars, designed
to position Jordan as a regional food manufacturing and logistics
hub.

Developed by the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply alongside
the USAID Economic Reform Activity, the Jordan Chamber of Industry,
and key public-private partners, the strategy translates its core
policy tracks into an operational portfolio of 18 strategic
initiatives. The framework aligns value-chain diagnostic mapping with
macro-level growth targets to maximize economic impact and optimize
capital allocation across the sector.

The strategy introduces measurable executive programs spanning
regulatory modernization, quality assurance, and industrial
infrastructure. Key initiatives include launching a national food
traceability system, implementing risk-based regulatory inspections,
upgrading accredited national testing laboratories, and establishing
specialized agri-industrial clusters.

The roadmap also emphasizes expanding contract farming, upgrading
cold-chain logistics, integrating advanced packaging technologies,
accelerating industrial energy and water efficiency, deploying Smart
Manufacturing systems, launching a national food quality mark, and
aligning workforce skills to expand Jordan’s export footprint.

By 2029, the strategy aims to elevate sector productivity, increase
structural value-addition, and diversify destination markets within
an institutionalized performance management framework featuring
specific Key Performance Indicators.

Following the Ministry’s launch of three sector-specific industrial
strategies for 2027–2029 covering food, engineering, and chemical and
cosmetic manufacturing, the roadmap serves as an operational driver
for the High-Value Industries engine under the Economic Modernization
Vision, accelerating industrial output, job creation, and export
expansion.
