Oxfam, Un Ponte Per launch project to strengthen protection for vulnerable groups in Jordan

Amman, October 21 (Petra) – Oxfam in Jordan and the Italian
organisation Un Ponte Per (UPP) launched the “Rabee” (SPRING) project
on Wednesday to strengthen protection for vulnerable groups,
including refugees and Jordanians, by providing comprehensive and
sustainable protection services in Zarqa, Mafraq, Amman and Ramtha.

Funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), the
project is being implemented in partnership with the Al-Dhuleil
Women’s Association, Athar for Development, and Sawaed Al-Taghyeer
(Arms of Change) for Community Empowerment.

The initiative provides protection services, individual and group
psychosocial support, legal counseling and advocacy and safe spaces
for women and children. It supports economically vulnerable families
through targeted cash assistance to address protection-related and
educational needs.

The launch event brought together representatives of government
institutions, civil society organisations, and UN agencies to discuss
ways to strengthen cooperation and ensure that vulnerable groups,
particularly women, children and refugees, have access to
comprehensive and sustainable protection services.

The project adopts a multisectoral approach to addressing the urgent
needs of targeted communities by combining immediate assistance with
capacity-building initiatives for local communities and institutions.

The approach aims to strengthen resilience and promote long-term
development.

Mohammad Samara, programme manager at Oxfam in Jordan, said the
project and its partnerships reflect a commitment to protecting the
rights of the most vulnerable groups in Jordan.

He stressed that the project’s interventions and strategies are
tailored to community needs, take cultural sensitivities into
account, and are designed to ensure long-term sustainability.
