UNIFIL Reaffirms Commitment to Peace and Stability in Southern Lebanon

Beirut, October 24 (QNA) – The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has reaffirmed its commitment to achieving peace and stability in southern Lebanon.

In remarks marking United Nations Day, UNIFIL Head and Force Commander Diodato Abagnara said that here in southern Lebanon, everyone knows that peace can’t be taken for granted; it requires trust and a willingness to work together.

Abagnara added that UNIFIL’s military and civilian personnel, representing countries from around the globe, work daily to support the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, preserve stability and contribute to efforts to help local communities recover and return to normal life.

Abagnara pointed out that this occasion carries particular significance, as it will be UNIFIL’s last United Nations Day before its mandate expires at the end of 2026.

He added that as the mission moves into the final phase of its presence in southern Lebanon, it remains focused on supporting stability and preserving the foundations needed to secure lasting peace. (QNA)
