Tokyo, October 25 (QNA) – An earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale struck Japan’s Bonin Islands.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of approximately 492 kilometers.
There have been no immediate reports of casualties or material damage.
Japan is located at the junction of four tectonic plates, making it particularly vulnerable to seismic activity. It is also home to 100 active volcanoes.
In 2011, a magnitude 9.0 earthquake and subsequent tsunami killed more than 15,000 people and caused a disaster at the Fukushima nuclear plant. (QNA)
