47 Jordanian youth engage in KAFD’s 6th cycle of Parliamentary Fellowship Project

Amman, October 21 (Petra) – The King Abdullah II Fund for Development (KAFD) launched the first phase of the sixth cycle of the Parliamentary Fellowship Project, coinciding with the start of the Parliament’s regular session, which begins next Sunday.

Patronizing the program’s opening ceremony, KAFD Director Abdul Fattah Kayed said the project is “key in preparing a generation of politically aware and empowered youth.”

Each session of the project witnesses updates in its programs and content to keep pace with new developments and enhancing the quality of the educational and professional experience, aimed to providing participants with the necessary tools to integrate into political life, he pointed out.

Kayed added that the current session, which comprises 47 youth, has introduced a new selection mechanism, whereby 30% of participants are picked based on party affiliations, as the rate will gradually increase to 65% in subsequent editions.

Kayed noted this change aims to enhance the participants’ political and party skills and expand their participation in public life.

This phase, which extends over 18 days, lasts for two months, which allows participants to learn about the legislative and oversight role of the Lower House of Representatives and enhance their “active” participation in public life.

The project aims to integrate youth into Jordan’s political life and provide the opportunity to work as research assistants for MPs and undertake the task of researching and preparing supporting information and studies on draft laws or issues under parliamentary debate.

Launched by KAFD in 2019, the project has seen the participation of 364 youth since its inception in theoretical training, while 342 of them received practical training at the Lower House of Representatives, which contributed to building their capacities and deepening their knowledge of the role of the legislative institution in decision-making. processes
