Signed to Establish Factory for Producing Medicines, Medical Supplies in Sohar
Freezone
Sohar,
3 Nov (ONA) — SOHAR Port and Freezone today signed a land lease agreement
with Pharma Investment Group (IMGSA – Free Zone Company) to establish a factory
for producing medicines and medical supplies over an area of 40,000 square
meters in Sohar Freezone, with investments totaling approximately RO 7.7
million (USD 20 million).
This
factory is a joint venture between a number of Omani investors and the Algerian
IMGSA Group, underscoring SOHAR Port and Freezone’s commitment and success in
providing an integrated, attractive ecosystem for investment that will boost
trade in the Sultanate of Oman through the adoption of best sustainable
practices.
The
factory is scheduled to begin operations in 2027 and will be designed and
constructed in accordance with the highest applicable international standards.
The factory will include sterile production lines, advanced quality control
laboratories, research and development units, and a specialized training center
for qualifying and developing national competencies in pharmaceutical
manufacturing and quality management. The project also includes the
establishment of a comprehensive, integrated research and development
laboratory.
The
factory will produce a wide range of medical supplies and products, such as antibiotics,
oncology treatments, medical-use gloves, sterile gauze, and consumable medical
products.
The
project in Sohar Freezone will contribute to enhancing the industrial landscape
in the Sultanate of Oman by attracting qualitative investments in advanced
pharmaceutical industries and consolidating SOHAR Port and Freezone’s position
as a pivotal hub connecting regional industries to global markets, affirming the
commitment to supporting sustainable economic growth and strengthening the zone’s
role within the global trade system.
