Amman, Sep.10 (Petra) – Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Saeb Khreisat, discussed with Country Director of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Dr. Vrej Jijyan, cooperation in implementing the second phase of the Small Ruminant Investment and Rural Households Out of Poverty Project.
According to a ministry statement on Wednesday, the project’s new stage would build on outcomes of the first phase currently being implemented in the Kingdom’s northern and central governorates.
The ministry said this effort aims to improve services provided to farmers and increase productivity of small agricultural projects, contributing to poverty reduction and enhancing access to sustainable livelihoods.
During the meeting, Khreisat expressed his appreciation for IFAD’s continued support for developing the Kingdom’s agricultural sector.
In this context, he said this support aims to support small farmers, build agricultural alliances, and monitor production and marketing stages, which would achieve enhanced food security.
The minister also highlighted the importance of “effective” partnerships with international organizations in serving Jordan’s economic modernization processes and supporting and developing the agricultural sector, which is “the cornerstone of food security.”
