Al-Gadarif, Jan. 30, 2026 (SUNA) – Al-Gadarif State Ministry of Health Director-General Dr. Ahmed Al-Amin Adam met on Friday with Dr. Margaret, International Lead for Kala-azar (Visceral Leishmaniasis) at Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Netherlands, at the ministry’s headquarters.The meeting was attended by Ministry Director of Organizations Administration Professor Dafallah Alam Al-Huda.They discussed enhancing MSF’s health interventions in Al-Gadarif State, including services at Al-Tunaydibah camp for Ethiopian refugees and the rehabilitation of Al-Hawata, Al-Fao, and Al-Mafaza hospitals. The talks also addressed MSF’s contributions to supporting the state’s health system, responding to emergencies, and combating epidemics.Dr. Al-Amin praised MSF Netherlands for its role in combating kala-azar and supporting hospitals, stating: “The partnership with Médecins Sans Frontières represents a fundamental pillar in enhancing the health response and confronting epidemiological challenges in the state.”Following the meeting, the delegation conducted a field visit to Al-Salam Hospital in Al-Gadarif municipality, planned to become a specialized centre for neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). The team reviewed hospital departments and identified requirements for the next phase of service development.The delegation, accompanied by the Minister of Health, will conduct additional field visits to several hospitals in the coming days to strengthen partnerships and coordinate efforts to improve health services in Al-Gadarif State.The meeting also confirmed the convening of the International Conference on Kala-azar in Al-Gadarif State next May, aimed at unifying efforts, exchanging expertise, and supporting control and treatment plans, as the state accounts for approximately 85% of national cases.AS/BH
