Aqaba Water Company, Japanese Ambassador Review SCADA Project, Cooperation

Aqaba, Sep. 1 (Petra) – Director General of the Aqaba Water Company Wael Duwairi discussed with the Japanese Ambassador to the Kingdom, Asari Hideki, the implementation of the SCADA control room project in Ma’an Governorate, which will enhance monitoring and control systems and improve service levels.

During his visit to the company on Monday, the Ambassador was briefed on the services provided in Aqaba Governorate and the southern governorates.

Duwairi reviewed areas of cooperation between the company and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), particularly in training, capacity building, and workforce efficiency, with a focus on water loss management. He noted that Japanese support extends across the southern governorates, including Aqaba, and directly contributes to strengthening the company’s capabilities in addressing technical challenges and ensuring the sustainability of water and sanitation services.

He praised the support provided by JICA to the company in particular and to the water sector in Jordan in general, underscoring that this cooperation represents a pioneering model of Jordanian-Japanese relations and contributes to serving local communities and advancing sustainable development.

For his part, Director of the Company’s Loss and Energy Efficiency Department, Mustafa Dardasawi, gave a presentation on mechanisms for monitoring unbilled water and strategies to address water loss. He explained that the company’s strategic plans aim to reduce loss rates to the lowest possible levels by applying advanced technical and technological solutions.

The Ambassador and his accompanying delegation also visited the company’s central control room and received a briefing on the operation of the SCADA system in managing water and wastewater services in Aqaba. They were informed of its role in promptly detecting faults and network attacks, thereby increasing response efficiency and improving services provided to citizens.
